SUZUKA
Suzuka is about a teenage boy, Akitsuki Yamato, who moves to Tokyo to live with his Aunt in her all girl’s dorm/womens bath house as he goes to high school (Love Hina anyone?). When he arrives, he meets a girl, Asahina Suzuka, a high jumper on the track and field club, and instantly becomes attracted. He then discovers that she’s his neighbor in the dorm and despite their constant arguing and failure to get along, he comes to like her even more. After confessing and getting turned down, he decides to join the track and field club with her in an attempt to get closer to her and the story continues to evolve from there.
Overall the story was appealing and rarely short on humor, and unlike many romance based manga the situations were more based around reality and not some teenage boys fantasies (but not by too much). Things didnt always work out for the best when it came to the struggles the main character faced throughout the plot, and I think that was the main thing being pushed for by the author. Although I do admit, due to this pressure to hold a grasp on reality a great deal of the plot build-up that seemed to be very deeply woven into the storyline was kind of tossed to the side in the end. Still, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed similar manga of the comedy/romance genre (Love Hina, Ichigo 100%, etc.).
Personal Rating: 7/10. If the ending had been a little more fulfilling, it would have been rated higher.
